in-between spaces

Ever dreamed of being able to play and dance in a huge empty store?

Magic Acorns have been on an extraordinary journey of discovery with a small group of artists to create the In-Between Spaces family sessions in PRIMEYARC, Great Yarmouth (an ex-department store, now gallery and community space).

Using light, shadow, sound and movement, the space was transformed into a multi-sensory environment to welcome family bubbles to as we emerged from the lockdown restrictions.

The family bubbles visited the In-Between Space one at a time, the children were all under 3 years old and some were young babies, born during lockdown. Each In-Between Space session was unique, following the lead of the children, improvising with their play and finding the games that emerged in the In-Between Spaces.

As part of this special Arts Council funded project video artist Lewis Wickwar has created these artistic responses to the In-Between Space sessions.

You can watch our recent In-Between Spaces network meeting here where we reflect on the project with colleagues from around the UK. And you can watch and listen to Charlotte Aruculus' response to the project - Improvisation, Complicité & Care: The Ethics of Aesthetic Practices.
